“Kìa mây mây ngang đầu,
Kìa núi núi lô nhô
Cùng em trên con đường,
Đường bé xíu quanh co
Băng qua những ngọn đồi,
Thấy em nghiêng nghiêng cười trong đôi mắt tròn
Và thế giới cũng nghiêng theo đôi bàn chân em…”
(Nấu ăn cho em – Đen Vâu)
“Clouds drift softly overhead,
Peaks roll like gentle waves.
Along the narrow winding path,
You wander, light as morning haze.
Across the hills I glimpse your smile,
Round eyes aglow, the world tilts with your tiny steps…”
(from “Cooking for EM” – Đen Vâu)
A child of the highlands—cheeks flushed like peach blossoms, a shy crescent smile upon lips, bare feet tracing the earth in garments frayed by wind and sun.
Only five, yet already a keeper of the home: tending siblings, following parents to the terraced fields. EM shoulder baskets of rice and corn, gathering mountain herbs heavy as the strength within EM small frame.
Though coins are scarce, EM spirit is rich with wonder and affection. At first light EM climb ridges, ford streams, and cross misty valleys, each step a quiet hymn toward learning.
Small in body yet mighty in resolve, EM rise beyond hardship, a Vietnamese child reaching for the dawn—toward a future luminous with joy and wholeness, the life EM have long dreamed.
